Hair Growth…

Many products claim to grow hair. They do not work. Remember, we are talking about actually "growing" hair not simply making it more healthy. Be careful of fancy wording of products, too. A lot of hair companies write a paragraph on their site that is very deceptive. I haveto read it twice to decipher it; No, they cannot grow hair where there are no follicles, but their ad seems to suggest otherwise, or at least point out the flaws of drugs that are involved in hair growth. Can some products prevent hair loss (as opposed to growing it)? Yes, Propecia is one. It is for men only, as it is associated with testosterone.

So many adverts claim that they do something take for example, Boots Pentene Hair Growth Shampoo advert says it "Pantene Pro-V Miracles Grow Strong shampoo is designed to help reduce hair loss due to breakage so hair can grow strong (strength against styling damage) from root to tip.” Yes, it won't hurt you to try it and the nutritional aspect of it is not going to perform “miracles” so don’t be fooled by carefully worded ads. There are at least 100 different products on the market today, which claim, either directly or indirectly, that they will grow hair or prevent baldness by "unclogging" hair follices. The effectiveness of virtually all of these products can be summed up in three simple words-they don't work! In fact put oils in your hair that do not require any branding.

If you have any mercury amalgam fillings, nickel under crowns, or root canals, it can cause your hair to fall out. so, I recommend getting them out if you do.

The only thing proven to grow hair is high blood pressure medicines like Minoxidil (Rogaine), which, if you stop using it, the hair falls out. In order to maintain a beneficial effect, Rogaine therapy must be continued forever. In many people, a tolerance effect develops after 2-3 years. As a result of this, the drug is often discontinued. I hate do disappoint you but nothing topical works long-term. Look into cleansing intensely, colon, parasites and liver, and while the results are very slow to show, as hair loss can stabilise better and more hair is sprouting. Sulphur, Silicon and Zinc  are responsible for healthy hair growth. My advice to you, stop wasting your money and start cleansing your body and diet.

So what do I do?

I wash my hair every two days. I have wavy, curly, dark brunette hair, so it's pretty obvious when it starts to get oily, but I've learned that training your scalp is not the way foward, so I just wash it when I feel like it's necessary! Then again I have strong hair genes and take from my father. So don’t be so harsh on yourself sometimes it is in you genes ask your parents how their hair was when they were your age. Throw away all commercial products even if they say 'natural' they still have chemicals in them, even if not 'proven' carcinogenic, harmful etc. your body still has to get rid of them. Make sure it has no Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) in it as it blocks your skin and means it is unable to get rid of toxins, if it doesnt specifically list the ingredients, dont use it. It must be 100% natural, the less things added the better or, make your own once you have detoxed successfully im sure you can start using soap with essential oils though I would always alternate with a nothing-added soap to give your scalp a chance to detox. Your hair may become heavy, dull, oily for a few days. vinegar rinsing may help for a while but it may still seem to become resistant to washing, being difficult to get wet and difficult to get soap into. this is good news! it means its detoxing and you can help speed this process up by....

  • Hair oiling. I put an equal mixture of Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Apple Cider Vinegar and Lemon on once a week.I apply it to my scalp and massage it throughout my hair to leave overnight. I sometimes put a few drops of Rosemary oil too. I only oil once a week because I have to go into work, I would oil it more if I could. Place a towel on your pillow to prevent the oil from staining your pillow case.

  • Protective hairstyles for the night: I sleep with braids or a loose bun. I've tried my hairstyles, and this one has been my favourite as I wake up with clean wavy hair.

  • I don't use heat: The only thing I do is blow-dry my hair when it's already like 80% dry!! Letting your hair air dry completely can make it oily. Once its half dry it will look like the photo on the right, don’t expect it to look like a hair advert straight away.

  • Trimming your ends. I get a trim every 3 months, I do let them blow dry my hair as I my hairdresser know not to pull it so hard. Find a trusted hairdresser and stick to the same one.

Products I use:

  • Castor Oil, Rosemary Oil, Coconut Oil, ACV and lemon can all be found in your local Asian supermarket. You may need to purchase Rosmary oil elsewhere.

  • Moroccan oil. Moroccanoil Treatment Light like 1-2x a week.

  • Other stuff I use: tangle teezer wet detangler, silk scrunchies, Treseme Blowdryer, silk pillowcase.

Simple Do's and Don'ts:

  • Eat more protein, I used to snack on peanuts, pistacios or almonds when I was younger and still to this day do not knowing that it was contributing to my hair growth journey.

  • Try overnight hairstyles like 'overnight curls' to avoid using heat

  • Don't dye or bleach your hair

  • Don't use heat or styling tools

  • Never sleep with wet or damp hair

  • Pick shampoos and hair products in general without sulfate

  • Don’t get hair extensions/glue in hair extensions

  • Don’t stress too much as tension and depression are the main causes for hair loss.
